The New York State Police announced Troopers issued more than 11,800 tickets during a special STOP DWI traffic enforcement period over Super Bowl Weekend. During the campaign which started Friday, Feb. 10, and ran through Monday, Feb. 13, Troopers arrested 183 people for DWI, and investigated 490 crashes, which resulted in 73 people being injured and four fatalities.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the second round of competitive grants for the Forest Conservation Easements for Land Trusts (FCELT) Grant program. In partnership with the Land Trust Alliance, a total of $1.35 million in grant funding is available for DEC to award to eligible, accredited land trusts to purchase conservation easements on forested land for the purpose of protecting these lands from future development.

Gov. Kathy Hochul has launched a "nation-leading initiative to offer fully paid parental leave benefits to New York state employees," her team said. "The governor announced in a policy bulletin that more than 10,000 unrepresented state employees will be eligible to receive 12 weeks of fully paid leave to use for bonding with a newborn, fostered or adopted child. The majority of employees will be able to take leave starting today."

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced $7.6 million is available to support animal shelters and humane societies in making "critical upgrades" at New York's animal shelters. This is the fifth round of funding for New York State's Companion Animal Capital Fund, the first state-funded program in the nation to provide for shelter improvement projects. DiNapoli identifies concerns with the proposal and urges the Thruway Authority to first improve its operations and maximize non-toll revenues. DiNapoli's office reviewed a decade of the Thruway Authority's finances and the toll hike proposal, and found gaps in essential information necessary to evaluate the proposal.
