Eligible COVID-19 patients at Buffalo General Medical Center and Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital will begin participating in a number of FDA-approved experimental therapy options as early as this week. These therapies include a clinical trial of the arthritis medication, sarilumab; convalescent plasma infusions for critically ill patients as a way of introducing antibodies from individuals that have fully recovered from COVID-19; and the use of a promising antiviral medication, Remdesivir.

Seneca Resorts & Casinos on Thursday announced temporary furloughs for some team members as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Effective Monday, April 6, temporary furloughs will be implemented. Though there is no specific date slated for the furloughs to end and the resorts to reopen. The Seneca Resorts & Casinos executive leadership team continues to monitor the situation daily.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced Western New York will receive over $19.939 million in federal emergency funding to help local communities respond to and recover from the COVID-19 outbreak. Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday said there's no immediate end date to social distancing or brick and mortar restrictions put in place to slow the spread of COVID-19. Moreover, though he said there is likely a way to have businesses reopen as people are still taking precautionary measures, he acknowledged the coronavirus would still pose a public danger into the summer months.

Purchased from Foam Depot Inc., the 1 million surgical/procedural masks (pictured), are the types the hospital system is using with its "universal masking" guidelines. The Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry announced disc golf courses at Chestnut Ridge, Emery, Ellicott Creek and Como Lake parks will be closed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and due to concerns about safe social distancing while playing. New signage will be installed at each disc golf course advising of the closing, and baskets will be removed and stored until the courses are reopened.
