The International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, the Tokyo metropolitan government and the government of Japan on Monday agreed new dates for the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, in 2021. The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be celebrated from July 23 to Aug. 8, 2021. They also agreed on new dates for the Paralympic Games, which will be celebrated from Aug. 24 until Sept. 5, 2021.

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Monday announced a statewide public-private hospital plan to fight COVID-19. As part of the plan, public and private hospitals from across the state have agreed to implement a new balanced approach to fighting the virus where hospitals that are beginning to reach or exceed capacity can transfer patients to other hospitals that are not as full.

The event raised money to support two charities that are doing critical work during these challenging times: Feeding America and First Responders Children's Foundation. The one-hour special was created to help fight the spread of the COVID-19 virus and to celebrate the resilience and strength of the nation during this pandemic.

Cuomo extends 'New York State on PAUSE' 2 weeks

Amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Sunday announced all "New York State on PAUSE" functions will be extended for the next two weeks. He also directed the state nonessential workforce to continue to work from home for an additional two weeks, through April 15. The state will re-evaluate after this additional two-week period.

This is 10 more than our last report and continues the upward trend. Our public health nurses have been working with these individuals all weekend. The heat map that shows test results by municipality with be updated with these new cases on Monday."

On Friday, March 27, public health sanitarians from the Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) issued commissioner close orders to two establishments for violating the "New York State on PAUSE" executive order. This order, effective since Sunday, March 22, allows for restaurants and businesses that sell alcohol to remain open for take-out and delivery only.

Cuomo on Friday announced all schools in New York state must remain closed for an additional two weeks, until April 15, to ensure consistency and uniformity across the state in instructional time for this extraordinary school year. The New York States Department of Labor on Thursday announced the initial unemployment insurance claims data for New York state for the week ending March 21, 2020 - the first week in which claims were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Initial unemployment insurance claims last week, increased over the past year by 520% in New York. Overall, more than 80,500 claims were filed last week. Initial claims for UI increased by a minimum of 284% in each of New York's 10 labor market regions.

Catholic Health issues COVID-19 update

Catholic Health admitted the first patients to its COVID-19 treatment facility today at St. Joseph Campus located at 2605 Harlem Road in Cheektowaga. Treatment units at the site are being "phased-in" to help alleviate pressure at other Catholic Health hospitals and support the governor's plan to increase surge capacity.
Facebook Journalism Project awards grant to Niagara Frontier Publications

Six local newsrooms in New York were selected to receive almost $30,000 in funding - CNY Latino, Examiner Media, Niagara Frontier Publications, Spotlight Newspapers, Wallkill Valley Publications Inc., and Watertown Daily Times, with each of these recipients getting $5,000. In this first round, 50 local newsrooms across the U.S. and Canada are receiving $5,000 grants to help cover unexpected costs associated with covering the crisis in their communities. Additional recipients will be announced in the coming weeks.
