It has been nearly four months since New York-based assisted-living communities closed to outside visitors and temporarily suspended in-community services like hair salons. As New York continues its phased reopenings, which now allow for outdoor dining, hair and nail services, assisted living residents are being forced to leave their communities to visit loved ones, and to receive services such as hair appointments - two freedoms typically allowed in assisted living communities, which provide a more independent model of long-term care.

The U.S. Small Business Administration Atlantic Region's Paycheck Protection Program loan data for New York congressional districts 23 through 27 highlights the success of unprecedented federal relief to New York's small businesses. Approximately $38.35 billion in initial approved amounts came through many of SBA PPP-participating lenders to 323,903 small businesses and nonprofits across the Empire State.

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum will reopen for the 2020 season on Wednesday, July 8. The museum was forced to keep its doors shut due to COVID-19 restrictions, but received permission to open as part of phase four of "New York Forward" reopening guidelines.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced state outdoor pools across New York will open for swimming for the July 4 weekend under the standard operating schedule of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Pool-goers are reminded to practice social distancing, respect the rules, and do their part to keep the pool area safe for everyone. Pool capacity will be reduced and is expected to fill quickly. New Yorkers are urged to plan ahead by having alternate destinations ready.

Old Fort Niagara will reopen to visitors this Friday, July 3, following its 15-week closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Daily hours of operation have been shortened slightly, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow for extra cleaning before and after hours. Hourly musket and living-history demonstrations and seasonal food service will resume following proper health and social-distancing guidelines.

Governors in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut announced a travel advisory on June 25 that requires all individuals traveling from states with significant community transmission of COVID-19 to remain under quarantine for a period of 14 days. As of June 30, those states include Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Nevada, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced eight additional states meet the metrics to qualify for the travel advisory requiring individuals who have traveled to New York from those states - all of which have significant community spread - to quarantine for 14 days. The newly added states are California, Georgia, Iowa, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nevada and Tennessee. The quarantine applies to any person arriving from a state with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a seven-day rolling average or a state with a 10% or higher positivity rate over a seven-day rolling average.

The Aquarium of Niagara is preparing to end its COVID-19-related closure this week, as Western New York enters phase four of the "New York Forward" reopening plan. The venue will officially open to the general public on Saturday, July 4, with summer operating hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

A new survey conducted by Morning Consult commissioned by the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA) found that, while Americans remain hesitant about traveling, they overwhelmingly support efforts by Congress to help the travel industry recover - including helping hotels keep their doors open and bring back employees, as well as incentivizing Americans to travel again.
