Nineteen children have already passed away this year; 723 since 1998 (according to the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians). While an overwhelming majority of these deaths were accidental, they were preventable.

On June 10, the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston held its annual youth fishing derby at the Niagara River Anglers Association Fishing Preserve on Balmer Road in Youngstown. The event was open to children from the townships of Lewiston and Porter. This year, 73 children participated and more than 200 people were in attendance.
