Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Becky Wydysh and Sheriff Michael Filicetti on Thursday announced the draft plan of Niagara County's police reform and reinvention collaborative is available online for public review.

Niagara County approves funding for vaccination hires

The Niagara County Legislature unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday night to allocate $101,458 from its contingency fund to create and fill part-time positions that will help administer the COVID-19 vaccine to the public when the vaccine doses become available. The county intends to vaccinate the public through point-of-dispensing sites (PODS).
Niagara County: Driver's license expiration extended again

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski on Tuesday said Gov. Andrew Cuomo has issued executive order 202.87, which extends the expiration dates on licenses and permits that expired after March 1, 2020, to Jan. 29, 2021. In addition, the executive order also continues to require all in-person transactions at DMVs be done by appointment only.

Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston will open Catholic Health's first monoclonal antibiotic therapy clinic for the treatment of COVID-19 beginning the week of Jan. 4. The outpatient clinic is designed for individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the previous 10 days, and are 65 years of age or older or have other chronic medical conditions that could lead to hospitalization.
Seaman sworn into office

Brian D. Seaman, with wife Donna by his side, was sworn in as Niagara County district attorney on Wednesday, Dec. 30. The oath of office was conducted by Niagara County Court Judge Matthew J. Murphy III - who himself served as Niagara County DA for 16 years, and hired Seaman as an assistant DA in 2006.

DiMino Lewiston Tops owner Anthony DiMino is no stranger to giving. He has been featured often in this newspaper for his donations to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce and local anglers. This week, he and his store went above and beyond, donating $15,000 to the Salvation Army for Christmas. Volunteers have been manning the red kettle during the holiday season.

Though Erie County has made statewide headlines over the past month for its high number of coronavirus cases, more attention is starting to shift to neighboring Niagara County - where 11.5% of people tested for COVID-19 on Tuesday were positive.
