Arts Services Initiative of Western New York (ASI) announced details of its sixth annual Spark Awards presented by M&T Bank. The awards party, "Celebrating Those Who Ignite Arts & Culture," will take place from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, at the Hotel Henry located at the Richardson Olmsted Complex.

The Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday announced the team will partner with Coca-Cola and Delaware North to raise funds for Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Sabres' games on March 4 vs. the Edmonton Oilers, March 14 vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins, and March 31 vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Niagara County Pride to hold countywide LGBTQ health fair

The event is an opportunity for individuals in Niagara County to learn about medical and health services from local providers who either offer services focused around the unique needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, and/or who are affirming and supportive of LGBT patients and clients.

Arts Services Initiative of Western New York, in partnership with the New York State Council on the Arts, has announced the recipients of the 2019 decentralization grant program. Forty-eight organizations and artists in Erie and Niagara counties will receive a portion of $120,000 for community and school-based arts and cultural programs and artworks taking place in 2019.

United Way of Greater Niagara announces merger with United Way of The Tonawandas

Two leading United Way organizations in Niagara County - the United Way of the Tonawandas and United Way of Greater Niagara - announced completion this week of their merger and consolidation of services. Now operating under United Way of Greater Niagara, both chapters have come together to oversee and coordinate the services of 29 organizations throughout Niagara County, supporting a total of 46 different programs in the area.

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance announced most recipients of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will receive their full February benefits early, due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. Current SNAP recipients may receive their February benefits by Thursday, Jan. 17.

DiNapoli: School district tax levy growth to remain at 2 percent

For the second year in a row, property tax levy growth for school districts will be capped at 2 percent, according to data released by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. This 2 percent cap affects the tax cap calculations for 676 school districts as well as 10 cities with fiscal years starting July 1, including the "Big Four" cities of Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Yonkers.

The Breast Cancer Network of WNY (BCN) presented a donation of $10,000 for metastatic breast cancer research to the Research Initiative Fund of the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester on Dec. 5, 2018. The donation will be used to help fund the coalition's annual grant awards to scientific researchers in Central and Western New York who are specifically studying metastatic breast cancer.
