The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy is officially opening applications for its new development program, Young Professionals for Olmsted Parks (YPOP). This program, open to young professionals age 25-40, will provide "an enriching journey for participants, complete with networking opportunities, community-focused professional development, and unique cultural experiences within the Olmsted park system."

The Buffalo Sabres on Monday announced the team is holding an online sports memorabilia auction in conjunction with the 13th annual Sabres Foundation Golf Tournament. The auction begins at 5 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 15, and will be held at www.Sabres.com/auctions until 9 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 27. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Buffalo Sabres Foundation.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced the New York State Board for Historic Preservation recommended adding 18 varied properties to the State and National Registers of Historic Places, including a Hudson Valley village once famed for its violet industry, an early home in Long Island's African-American community, remnants of a 19th century canal that helped fuel the Southern Tier economy, and offices of an internationally known upstate tableware company founded by a 19th century religious community.

Erie County Medical Center Corp. announced its "LGBTQ Health Care Equality Top Performer" designation from the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC). The designation was awarded in the 13th edition of HRC's Healthcare Equality Index (HEI). A record 765 health care facilities actively participated in the HEI 2020 survey. Of those included in the HEI, 193 earned an "LGBTQ Health Care Equality Top Performer" designation.

The Carnegie Art Center is selling printed 2021 calendars as a fundraiser. The calendars feature a different work of art for each month of the year created by 12 artists living and working in Western New York. Calendars can be pre-ordered on the center's website anytime and will be available for delivery and pick-up in mid-September. Sales from the calendars will support the Carnegie Art Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The Buffalo Police Explorer Post 638 has partnered up with the None Like You/ We Care Outreach Center to raise money for the center's renovation. The Buffalo Police Explorers raised the funds to purchase the supplies needed to clean and paint the building located at 276 Southampton St. The Buffalo Benevolent Association was one of the largest contributors.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday welcomed a new ice-breaking tugboat designated to work in the Niagara River to help alleviate shoreline flooding and reduce the likelihood of ice limiting the power production at large hydroplants along the Niagara River. The "Breaker II" joins a fleet of three boats that work every winter to install the Lake Erie-Niagara River Ice Boom - a series of 22 spans of steel pontoons that straddle the mouth of the Niagara River and work to prevent large ice formations from traveling up river.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced more than $1 million has been awarded as part of the first round of grants being made through the East Side Commercial District Program, part of his East Side Corridor Economic Development Fund. Twenty-two awardees will each receive up to $50,000 in funding for exterior and/or interior repairs to commercial properties located within four targeted commercial districts on Buffalo's East Side.

Community Action Organization of Western New York President and CEO L. Nathan Hare has announced plans to retire after serving the antipoverty agency for 18 years. Hare will continue in his post until CAO's board, led by the Hon. Craig D. Hannah, completes a national search for his successor. The board has retained Catapult Executive Consulting of Buffalo to assist with the search.

Erie County Clerk Michael Kearns is warning Erie County residents of a letter scam where a letter, purporting to be from an employee of the "Erie County Department of Equalization," demands further payment before the end of the month of transfer tax owed to the county upon conveyance of real property. This tax is paid to the county of Erie and state of New York at the time of a real estate closing.

The Erie County Department of Health (ECDOH) is announcing scheduled dates for its free rabies vaccination clinics on Saturday, Sept. 19, and Tuesday, Sept. 29. Registrations will be required for these events, and the online registration will open Sept. 9. No walk-ins will be permitted. The City of Niagara Falls and Modern Disposal have developed a plan for the removal of excess waste (blue) and recycling (green) carts. For Niagara Falls residents who have extra waste and recycling carts for which a service change request has been filed and approved, Modern Disposal will be picking up these carts for removal starting at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced the groundbreaking of a new project to improve flood resiliency at Irondequoit Bay State Marine Park in Monroe County. The $2.67 million project, which is part of the governor's Lake Ontario Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative, will repair damage from flooding in 2017 and 2019, and raise the boat launch, docks and parking lot so they can continue to operate during times of high water.
