Botanical Gardens reopening to the public

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens announced Tuesday it will reopen to the public on July 15, with early access to members on July 8. A press release noted staffers can't wait to be #BackUnderTheDome.

Cuomo Bridge, the Mid-Hudson Bridge, the marque at the front of Whiteface Lake Placid Olympic Center, the SUNY Central Administration Building, the State Education Building, the Alfred E. Smith Building, Niagara Falls and the State Fair Exposition Center and LED boards featured at the State Fair main gate.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, in cooperation with seven Great Lakes states and two Canadian provinces, announced the second annual "Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Landing Blitz," a regional campaign to inform boaters and others about the risks of introducing and spreading these invasive pests. During this coordinated outreach effort, partners throughout the Great Lakes region will be educating the public at hundreds of water access sites from June 28 to July 5.

Catholic Health to resume hospital visitations on June 20

Catholic Health is finalizing a plan to safely welcome visitors back to its hospitals on Saturday, June 20. Current visitor restrictions will remain in effect until that time. New processes and guidelines are being finalized based on directives issued Wednesday by the New York State Department of Health (DOH), which include limited visiting hours, limits on the number of visitors at one time, required facial masking, and health screenings for all visitors.

ECMC medical intensive care unit receives national award of excellence

Erie County Medical Center Corp. on Monday announced the hospital's medical intensive care unit (MICU) has again been awarded a silver-level American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Beacon Award for Excellence, which is a three-year designation highlighting the unit's achievement of exceptional care through improved outcomes and greater overall patient satisfaction. ECMC's MICU had previously received the silver-level Beacon Award for Excellence in June 2017 and is one of 16 silver- level Beacon awards in New York for 2020.

NYS: SNAP recipients to receive additional $100 million in food assistance

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) announced more than $100 million in additional emergency food assistance for New Yorkers adversely affected by the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. About 750,000 low-income individuals and families enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will receive the maximum allowable benefit for June to help them avoid food insecurity.
