Niagara University education students provide summer tutoring for children at Carolyn's House

Several Niagara University graduate education students are helping to keep Niagara Falls elementary and middle school students engaged over the summer. Caitlin Owen, Britini D'Angelo and Allison Jenne are holding virtual tutoring sessions in July and August for children involved with Carolyn's House of the YWCA of Niagara Falls.
Buffalo History Museum welcomes guests back with free admission starting Aug. 1

The Buffalo History Museum will reopen to the public with new operational and safety procedures on Saturday, Aug. 1. Members will be invited back for exclusive "Member Days" July 29-31. Guests will be able to experience Buffalo's unique history with free admission for the remainder of 2020.

ASI awards a total of $235,640 in emergency grants to 154 individual artists & organizations

Arts Services Initiative of Western New York Inc. recently announced it awarded a total of 154 emergency grants - amounting to $235,640 total - through its WNY Arts Emergency Relief Fund. The fund, which opened on May 1, in response to COVID-19's devastating impact on Western New York's arts and cultural sector, supported 86 of the region's arts and cultural organizations and 68 of its individual artists, with the average grant amount of $2,262 per organization and $642 per individual.

The New York State Department of Health and State Office for the Aging announced a five-point plan to help long-term-care residents and their families access services through the Office of the State Long Term Care Ombudsman Program, provide additional resources to residents and families appealing involuntary discharges, expand the ombudsman volunteer program, "reimagine" a multiagency workgroup to enhance services, and provide up to $1 million in funding for long term care facilities to purchase tablets, webcams, headphones or other accessories to help residents stay connected with family and LTCOP during the COVID-19 crisis and beyond.

National Grid asks customers to continue to reduce electricity use in Snyder, Amherst, Eggertsville & portions of Buffalo

National Grid is asking approximately 6,000 customers in parts of Snyder, Amherst, Eggertsville and in an area near the Buffalo VA Medical Center to continue to reduce unnecessary electricity use, as crews work around the clock to repair damaged electricity equipment at nearby substations. The request is being made as a precaution and includes a second outbound call to customers in the impacted areas requesting reduced usage.
