Niagara County Legislator Tony Nemi announced the application deadlines for two upcoming civil service exams - for social service worker and correction officer - are fast approaching, and encouraged those who are interested to sign up now for the exam. The application deadline for both exams is Oct. 23, and the respective tests will be given Dec. 5.

Andrew E. Pilecki of Pendleton was reelected to the board of directors of the Firemen's Association of the State of New York during FASNY's 148th annual convention, which was held virtually Aug. 22, due to COVID-19. He previously served on the board of directors last year and has now been elected to a five-year term.

New York Attorney General Letitia James' special investigations and prosecutions unit (SIPU) on Friday announced the conclusion of its investigation into the death of India Cummings. After an exhaustive investigation, SIPU did not find criminal culpability on the part of any of the individuals responsible for her care during the period of her incarceration.

Sunnking, an electronics recycling company based in Brockport, has reopened registration for its annual "e-Scrap for Camp" fundraiser in Buffalo. This follows a four-month pause due to COVID-19. The program raises money for Camp Good Days and Special Times, a nonprofit organization that aims to improve the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been affected by cancer.

"Moving Day" is a walk to beat Parkinson's disease hosted annually by the Parkinson's Foundation. It is the largest fundraising event of the year for the foundation. The ninth annual "Moving Day Buffalo" is scheduled for noon Saturday, Sept. 26. This year, however, the "walk" will be a virtual one.

Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced the New York State Board for Historic Preservation recommended adding 18 varied properties to the State and National Registers of Historic Places, including a Hudson Valley village once famed for its violet industry, an early home in Long Island's African-American community, remnants of a 19th century canal that helped fuel the Southern Tier economy, and offices of an internationally known upstate tableware company founded by a 19th century religious community.
