Empower offers free theater camp to kids with autism

Empower, the not-for-profit organization formerly known as Niagara Cerebral Palsy, will offer a free theater camp to children with autism, beginning June 6. Up to 40 students who are between the ages of 7 and 15 and who have autism spectrum disorder, will be accepted.
Corps of Engineers to repair Black Rock Lock operating gates

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District, has issued a $200,000 contract to Clark Rigging and Rental Corp. for the repair of the lower west operating gate at the Black Rock Lock in Buffalo.

Late last year while collecting for Cans For Food, Lewiston resident Angelo Sarkees found a jar full of pennies. Instead of just cashing in the pennies, he decided to have a contest to raise some more money for the local food pantries.

'Gowns For Prom' in need of dresses, shoes, volunteers

The 12th annual "Gowns For Prom" program, sponsored by Colvin Cleaners and presented by Allstate, is seeking donations of new or gently used formal gowns, shoes and accessories of any size. These items are cleaned by Colvin Cleaners and provided free of charge to young ladies in area high schools who are unable to afford a prom gown.

Catholic Charities receives $1 million grant to help fund renovation of former Niagara Falls School

Catholic Charities of Buffalo is the recent recipient of a $1 million grant from the Nonprofit Infrastructure Capital Investment Program (NICIP) through the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York to help transform the former Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish School in Niagara Falls into a family services center.
