When WTS Chairman Gary Hall proposed adding a tennis complex to his company's North Second and Mohawk streets property in 2013, his son, Brian, said the impetus is "My father very much cares for his employees. Building a health and wellness center for WTS employees, he felt, was the right thing to do. Health and wellness is very important. We want our employees to be happy, healthy."
Morinello receives Guardian of Small Business Award

Morinello the Guardian of Small Business Award "for his consistent advocacy for small businesses in New York state," a press release stated. This prestigious award is presented to legislators who vote in support of small businesses and "who champion issues affecting businesses in New York state."
Heart Month: 'Red cap' baby at Mount St. Mary's

Lewiston-Porter Central School District receives stem grant, tech donation

The Lewiston-Porter Central School District has received a $990 STEM grant from the Toshiba America Foundation. Funds will support the Intermediate Education Center STEM program. In particular, monies will be used to purchase Ozobot robots to assist in teaching elementary students how to write code. This will provide students with opportunities to be creative thinkers and engage in higher level technology projects.

Western New Yorkers can help feed their hungry community members while shopping at area grocery stores and retailers participating in the annual "Check Out Hunger" campaign to benefit the Food Bank of WNY. Customers have the option to donate $2, $3 or $5 at the register in order to help the nonprofit and its 317 member agencies provide nutritious food and support to those in need throughout Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties.

The Lewiston Council on the Arts recently received notification of its award of decentralization grant funding in support of a new event that will take place at Hennepin Park during the Lewiston Art Festival on Aug. 10-11. The gazebo area will be transformed into an Iroquois market, bringing to life the rich history of Native American traditions, and featuring traditional drumming, music, dance and free hands-on activities.
Memorial begins lobby renovation project

In basketball terms, when Niagara-Wheatfield and Grand Island stepped onto the hardwood inside N-WHS Tuesday night, the teams were battling to improve their record in the Niagara Frontier League and gain points for the sectional playoffs. As important as a win was, though, Tuesday night was a lot more than basketball. The Falcons and Vikings joined in the 2019 Hoops for Hope game, which was played in honor of a friend close to each school's heart - Julie Neville.

Applications are now available for the 53rd annual Lewiston Art Festival, which will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, and Sunday, Aug. 11, 20I9, on Center Street in the Village of Lewiston. More than 175 professional artists will display and sell their work and compete for $5,000 in prizes in the juried show. The application deadline is April 1.

Deposits for Food continues to assist pantries

Deposits for Food presented donations to two Niagara Falls food pantries last week: Community Missions, and Heart, Love & Soul. The proceeds were obtained from D4F's collections of returnable containers and scrap metal. To date, total donations have topped $55,000.
