A statue of the Madonna that once stood in front of Niagara Catholic High School has found a new home at the foot of St. Peter R.C. Church in Lewiston. On Sunday, the Rev. Monsignor David LiPuma led a Mass of thanksgiving and dedication as he stood next to the monument of Mary.

ABC announced "King of the Highwire" Nik Wallenda and his sister, Lijana, seventh-generation members of the Wallenda family circus troupe, will return to the highwire for a never-before-attempted walk of approximately 1,300 feet long and 25 stories above street level, across New York City's iconic Times Square, live on Sunday, June 23 (8 p.m. EDT). "Highwire Live in Times Square with Nik Wallenda" will air as a live two-hour televised event.

Junior Achievement of Western New York (JA) announced it raised a record-breaking $174,711 from its 35th annual JA Bowl-A-Thon, WNY's largest bowling fundraiser. A total of 1,420 participants representing 64 local companies bowled and raised funds for JA's financial literacy, career and work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs taught by volunteers in WNY schools.

ECHDC board meets, approves construction contract for Longshed

The Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. board of directors met Monday and authorized ECHDC to enter into a $5.53 million contract with Savarino Companies LLC for construction of the Longshed Building at Canalside. The approximately 4,400-square-foot wood-frame structure will reflect the Central Wharf site's history by incorporating elements from the Joy and Webster Storehouse located on the site in the early 1800s. Staff and volunteers with the Buffalo Maritime Center will work out of the building during its first three years while building a replica of an 1825 packet boat.

Despite mud, crowds swim to Smelt Fest

As predicted, the Lewiston Smelt Festival was about 55 and overcast on Friday. What was an unexpected surprise was the amount of mud within Academy Park, where the annual event relocated for 2019. To counter the conditions, the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce brought in an oversized party tent and buckets of wood chips.
