Funded by the U.S. Department of Justice and awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, the grant supports public safety efforts in the Cataract City.

At 3:29 a.m. Saturday, the Buffalo Zoo's greater one-horned rhino, Tashi, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. This is Tashi's fifth calf, but the first with previous male George, who formerly lived at the venue but now resides at another Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited facility.

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. met Tuesday and authorized construction contracts totaling $13 million for the Terminal B renovations project on Buffalo's Outer Harbor. The project will create a new outdoor events center and surrounding open space by rehabilitating a vacant structure and utilizing existing parking, while reclaiming seven acres of contaminated property to open additional public access with new lake views.

The newly remodeled Brickyard Brewing Company was the scene, Saturday night, for the return of "Lewiston Jeopardy!" - a beer and pizza fundraiser for the Historical Association of Lewiston. Fans filled the second-floor banquet room to watch four rounds of questions (plus the all-important final question) while also competing for raffle tickets and other prizes during the "commercials." This event - canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions limiting gatherings - raised more than $1,000 for HAL.

On the closing night of the 63rd annual Niagara County Peach Festival, the Lewiston Kiwanis Club presented a check in the amount of $4,000 to the John R. Oishei Children's Hospital. The organization, on Sunday, also presented a check for $883.80 to Lewiston No. 1 Fire Co. This money will be used to purchase an additional automated external defibrillator for response vehicles.
Peach Festival: Shanya Davis named Peach Queen

Sunday night at the Lewiston No. 1 Fire Co. firehall, 19-year-old Shanya Davis of Niagara Falls was named the 2021-22 Peach Queen. She received her crown from Victoria Skrlin-Kozak, who took the title in 2019. The scholarship pageant did not take place in 2020, due to coronavirus safety restrictions.
