Higgins urges Western New Yorkers to claim Earned Income Tax Credit

Congressman Brian Higgins is urging Western New Yorkers to take advantage of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) - a tax provision that helps lift working families out of poverty. In 2021, 25 million Americans received the credit, however it is estimated 20% of eligible taxpayers - about 6 million people - failed to claim the benefit.

Providence Farm Collective awarded major grant to develop farmers market on Buffalo's west side

Providence Farm Collective (PFC) has received a $477,000 Farmers Market Promotion Program grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). With this funding, PFC will create a farmers' market on Grant Street, in the heart of Buffalo's west side, where many of their farmers live. The market will be open from the end of June to October, and it will serve the Black community and refugees from Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Ethiopia, Myanmar and Liberia.

Several regions across the state, including parts of Western and Central New York, the Finger Lakes, Mohawk Valley, North Country and Capital District, are forecast to experience below-freezing temperatures and wind chills as low as minus-30 degrees.

Higgins announces launch of federal website to request free at-home COVID-19 tests

Congressman Brian Higgins announced the federal government has launched a new website for Americans to request at-home COVID-19 test kits delivered to their homes free of charge. The website, www.covidtests.gov, is now live in beta test phase. The program officially launches on Wednesday. Residents can begin ordering their tests today.

US military hospital support coming to ECMC

DiNapoli urges New Yorkers to spend holiday gift cards

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to spend the gift cards they received this holiday season in a timely fashion. If not, the money could eventually get turned over to the Office of Unclaimed Funds. In the past seven years, the amount returned to DiNapoli's office in unused gift cards has risen sharply from $5.8 million in 2014 to $16 million in 2021.
