NYS Tax Department: 57% increase in use of Free File program

The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance announced the Free File program experienced a 57% increase in use this tax filing season. Over a quarter-million taxpayers took advantage of the free tax preparation and filing software available through the Tax Department website, saving New Yorkers more than an estimated $51 million in tax preparer and tax software expenses.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday announced an additional state meets the metrics to qualify for the travel advisory requiring individuals who have traveled to New York from those states, all of which have significant community spread, to quarantine for 14 days. The newly added state is Rhode Island, bringing the total to 35.
