Cuomo signs legislation banning 'most harmful uses' of trichloroethylene

Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently signed legislation (S.6829/A.8829-A) banning the "most harmful uses" of trichloroethylene, or TCE, a toxic chemical used in industrial and commercial processes. The legislation bans TCE's use as a vapor degreaser, an intermediate chemical in the production of other chemicals, a refrigerant, an extraction solvent or in any other manufacturing or industrial cleaning process or use.
Mt. St. Mary's to provide Catholic Health's first COVID-19 monoclonal antibody therapy clinic

Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston will open Catholic Health's first monoclonal antibiotic therapy clinic for the treatment of COVID-19 beginning the week of Jan. 4. The outpatient clinic is designed for individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the previous 10 days, and are 65 years of age or older or have other chronic medical conditions that could lead to hospitalization.

New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker on Wednesday issued a letter to hospital administrators to detail directives issued by the Department of Health with regard to expanding hospital capacity as New York continues to fight COVID-19. On Dec. 7, hospitals were directed to expand capacity by 25%. Four days later, they were directed to expand by an additional 25% or cancel elective surgeries.

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) announced more than $100 million in additional emergency food assistance to help New Yorkers avoid food insecurity during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
