At a press conference, Niagara County and state officials announced the expansion of Niagara County's permanent pharmaceutical drop-box program to the Town of Newfane. The goal is to enhance the collection of pharmaceuticals in rural portions of the county.

Junior Achievement of Western New York (JA) announced it raised a record-breaking $174,711 from its 35th annual JA Bowl-A-Thon, WNY's largest bowling fundraiser. A total of 1,420 participants representing 64 local companies bowled and raised funds for JA's financial literacy, career and work readiness, and entrepreneurship programs taught by volunteers in WNY schools.

The Artpark & Company board of directors has confirmed selection of the lead design team for its master plan: Internationally recognized architecture and design firm SO - IL; landscape architects West 8; and theater, acoustics and digital design consultancy Charcoalblue. They are tasked with the development of a strategy to revitalize the Artpark grounds, while improving connectivity, facilities and programs.

In recognition of the recent merger between The Food Bank of Western New York and Meals on Wheels for Western New York, KeyBank, in partnership with the First Niagara Foundation, is awarding a $25,000 proactive grant to applaud the nonprofit agencies for merging into a new entity called FeedMore WNY. The newly formed organization will share services and reduce expenses to increase food distribution over a larger geographical area and provide additionally enhanced programs to help even more people in the local community.

The 50th annual Olcott Polar Bear "Swim For Sight" was held Sunday afternoon on the Lake Ontario shores at Olcott Beach. Roughly 400 swimmers participated, while all types of food and vendors could be found on the hamlet's Main Street for a huge crowd of onlookers.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz on Thursday joined Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens Society President and CEO David Swarts to announce a county funding commitment of $2.5 million to support the Botanical Gardens' proposed expansion. The plan would add 36,000 square-feet of space for a butterfly conservatory, state‐of‐the‐art educational classrooms, new exhibits and grow houses, and event spaces.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday toured the ice boom and ice-breaking operations on the Niagara River following the significant windstorm that impacted Western New York from Sunday into Monday. The tour was conducted on the New York Power Authority's William H. Latham ice breaker, which is used to prevent ice jams on the river and also to prevent ice from blocking the tunnel water intakes that are used by NYPA's power plant for power generation.

When WTS Chairman Gary Hall proposed adding a tennis complex to his company's North Second and Mohawk streets property in 2013, his son, Brian, said the impetus is "My father very much cares for his employees. Building a health and wellness center for WTS employees, he felt, was the right thing to do. Health and wellness is very important. We want our employees to be happy, healthy."
