The officers of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association voted to delay the official start date of the fall 2020 sports season, cancel the fall 2020 regional and state championships, and prepare to implement a condensed season schedule in January 2021 if high school sports remain prohibited throughout 2020 due to COVID-19. This decision comes at the recommendation of the NYSPHSAA COVID-19 task force when it convened as a working group for the third time Thursday morning.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced a new, $2 million outdoor recreation center is opening at Letchworth State Park. Construction began in April 2019 and was completed recently. The Lower Falls Recreation Area provides a fun new option to enjoy one of the Finger Lakes Region's top tourism destinations.

When people think of Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons athletics and its history, many turn towards the success of the wrestling program over the years.
This past weekend, another N-W wrestler etched his name into the history books, as senior Justin McDougald became the fifth Falcons wrestler to win a New York State wrestling title.

Over the last two seasons, the Lewiston-Porter Lancers boys basketball team have accomplished great feats going a combined 33-12 and won the Niagara Frontier League and Section VI Class A titles.
Accomplishments and accolades take hard work, talent and success to achieve. While the Lancers feature star sophomore Roddy Gayle, there's another player wearing the Kelly green and white who has been a huge piece to the L-P squad ... and he's just a freshman.
Jalen Duff has taken the role of point guard for the last two seasons under coach Matt Bradshaw's squad and, in just two years, the two-year varsity guard has stood out for the Lancers.

Those who have gone on a roller coaster know, the ride goes up, down and every which way. The Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons 2018-19 boys basketball season was (in a way) like the amusement park thriller. There were ups, downs, turns and bumps, but the main emotion of that roller coaster - it was a thrilling time.

The Lewiston-Porter Lancers 2018-19 basketball season could be summed up in one word - historic.
The squad went 21-4, won the Niagara Frontier League title, a feat that hadn't been accomplished in 34 years; were victorious in the Section VI Class A championship and made an appearance in the Far West Regional before the season came to a close. All in all, it was the program's best season in 41 years.

2018-19 was one of the best seasons in the long history of Niagara Falls High School basketball. The team finished 21-4, won its fourth straight Section VI Class AA title and reached the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Final Four for the first time in 10 years.

It was a historic season for the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons boys soccer team, but, with all good things, they come to an end.
Friday night, the Falcons' 2019 campaign came to a close in the Far West Regional versus the Greece Athena Trojans, 3-0.

All postseason, the magic number for the Niagara-Wheatfield boys soccer team has been two. Monday night, the Falcons continued the trend, as the team defeated Williamsville South, 2-0, to clinch the Section VI Class A title.

When it comes to playoff time, the saying is: "Survive and advance."
Wednesday afternoon (and into the evening), the No. 1 seeded Niagara-Wheatfield boys soccer team did just that, as the Falcons finally pushed past No. 8 McKinley, 2-1, after two rounds of penalty kicks to advance to the Section VI Class A1 semifinals.

It was a night of upsets at Gene Masters Field on the Grand Island High School campus Wednesday night. In the first Niagara Frontier League boys soccer title matchup, Lewiston-Porter defeated Niagara-Wheatfield. For the girls title, the North Tonawanda Lumberjacks kept the upset specials alive, as they defeated the Grand Island Vikings, 2-1, to win the NFL crown.

Another example was present Thursday night, as senior Matt Lysiak led the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons football team to a 26-6 victory over the North Tonawanda Lumberjacks.

2018-19 was indeed a dominant school year for Niagara-Wheatfield athletics. On Wednesday, at the Niagara Frontier League end of the year banquet, the program added to its impressive resume by winning the Niagara Frontier League "President's Cup" Supremacy Award.

The Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons softball team has been in its fair share of offensive battles. On Tuesday, in the Section VI Class A1 semifinals, the Falcons got it done on the defensive side of the ball, as N-W defeated Hamburg, 1-0.

After heavy rains suspended the contest in the first inning last Wednesday, the two teams continued the battle on Saturday, with N-W coming out as the victors, 9-0.
Despite a stellar offensive showing from the Falcons, it was all about Tommy Peltier on the mound. The senior hurled a no hitter while striking out 13 Lions.

The last time the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons softball team played Kenmore West, the team witness the Blue Devils celebrate on their own field after an impressive comeback victory.
Friday night, the Falcons were seeking revenge and got it, as N-W defeated Ken-West, 8-4.

Saturday afternoon, on the turf of Kenmore West High School, the two Niagara Frontier League squads dueled in a second extra inning affair, with the Falcons defeating the Lancers, 6-3, in eight innings.

Last spring, the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons baseball team strolled into the Section VI Class AA final winners of nine consecutive games before their fall versus Williamsville North, 3-2.
During the streak, the bats and pitching arms of the Falcons were as hot as could be.
For the 2019 season, the team will return a bulk of the talent that led them on the streak.

Last spring, the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons softball team was close to winning its first Section VI title since 2011. The team fell short versus Lancaster but, for the 2019 spring season, the Falcons return a majority of the 2018 roster that guided the team to the finals.

The entire 2019 playoff run for the Niagara Falls Wolverines boys basketball team the narrative has been that the big shot always goes down.
Friday evening, that was not the case, as the Wolverines were defeated by West Genesee in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association semifinals, 59-57.

Niagara Falls Wolverines boys basketball head coach Sal Constantino has coached the historic program for nine years. One place he has not been in that time is the New York state finals tournament.
Saturday night, after a Far West Regional game against Section V's McQuaid, Constantino can begin booking his first trip to the final four.

Saturday night, the Lancers could party like it's 1978, as the team defeated Amherst, 51-40, in the Section VI Class A2 title game.

Everything was looking grand for the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons boys basketball team.
Last Saturday, the team upset rival North Tonawanda, clinching a berth to play in the semifinals at Buffalo State for the first time in 14 years.
The team rode an emotional high heading into the Section VI Class A1 semifinal matchup versus Williamsville East Thursday night, but the Flames knocked the Falcons back down to earth, as N-W was defeated, 66-43.

It's been 14 years since the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons boys basketball team has reached Buffalo State to play in the Section VI semifinals.
On Saturday, the team punched its ticket to return to the venue, as the No. 6 Falcons defeated No. 3 North Tonawanda, 58-49, in the Class A1 quarterfinals.

Coming into the postseason, many questioned how far the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons hockey team could go. After a regular season record of 10-10, the Falcons didn't let the number put any dampers on a run to the Section VI large school championship.
Tuesday night, the Falcons strived forward and defeated No. 1 Lancaster, 4-1, in the Section VI large school semifinal.

It's been 34 years since the Lewiston-Porter Lancers boys basketball team last hoisted a Niagara Frontier League title.
Thursday night, the Lancers reset that number back down to zero, as the team defeated Niagara Falls, 75-71, to win the 2018-19 Niagara Frontier League title.

Saying goodbye to players is never easy, but this year it will certainly be tough seeing one of his players walk across the graduation stage - Josiah Harris.
