New look Niagara-Wheatfield hoops hungry in 19-20

Those who have gone on a roller coaster know, the ride goes up, down and every which way. The Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons 2018-19 boys basketball season was (in a way) like the amusement park thriller. There were ups, downs, turns and bumps, but the main emotion of that roller coaster - it was a thrilling time.
GNBC's iconic 'Nutcracker' takes stage this weekend

The Greater Niagara Ballet Co. will present "The Nutcracker" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Niagara Falls High School Performing Arts Center, 4455 Porter Road. The GNBC's production showcases both local and Canadian dancers in a ballet set to the direction of artistic director Beverley Feder, FISTD, FCUSA, FICIA. In addition, local character actors and brave parents will participate in the Act I party scene.
Niagara University's Camp Courage Crew presents check to Camp Good Days and Special Times

Niagara University Camp Courage Crew officers presented Lisa Booz, WNY regional director at Camp Good Days and Special Times, with a check for $10,700 on Thursday. Students raised the funds during their second annual dance marathon in October.
Lew-Port hoops ready for success again in 2019-20

The Lewiston-Porter Lancers 2018-19 basketball season could be summed up in one word - historic. The squad went 21-4, won the Niagara Frontier League title, a feat that hadn't been accomplished in 34 years; were victorious in the Section VI Class A championship and made an appearance in the Far West Regional before the season came to a close. All in all, it was the program's best season in 41 years.
Niagara Falls hoops ready to continue winning tradition

2018-19 was one of the best seasons in the long history of Niagara Falls High School basketball. The team finished 21-4, won its fourth straight Section VI Class AA title and reached the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Final Four for the first time in 10 years.

Graduate talks about life in Coast Guard

Orleans/Niagara BOCES Security and Law Enforcement teacher Dudley Gilbert recently had a special guest in class. Seaman Apprentice Ryan Burbee, who graduated from Mr. Gilbert's class at the Orleans Career and Technical Education Center, stopped in to talk to the current students about his enrollment in the Coast Guard.

Wednesday afternoon (and into the evening), the No. 1 seeded Niagara-Wheatfield boys soccer team did just that, as the Falcons finally pushed past No. 8 McKinley, 2-1, after two rounds of penalty kicks to advance to the Section VI Class A1 semifinals.

It was a night of upsets at Gene Masters Field on the Grand Island High School campus Wednesday night. In the first Niagara Frontier League boys soccer title matchup, Lewiston-Porter defeated Niagara-Wheatfield. For the girls title, the North Tonawanda Lumberjacks kept the upset specials alive, as they defeated the Grand Island Vikings, 2-1, to win the NFL crown.

Jacobs, Brown announce $80,000 grant award to bolster access to soccer

Brown, North District Councilman Joseph Golombek and local community organizations and leaders in announcing he secured $80,000 in state funding to support new mini-pitches along the Scajaquada Pathway in the Black Rock-Riverside neighborhood.

Lewiston-Porter dedicates new cross country course in honor of Gary Raby Sr.

Lewiston-Porter announced the opening of the Gary Raby Sr. Cross Country Course this week on the Creek Road campus. The course was dedicated at a Tuesday afternoon ceremony, with the Raby family present to cut the ribbon and open the 1.7-mile course. The Lew-Port cross country team, now coached by Gary's daughter, Jenn, was joined by alumni, administrators and board members to honor Gary and his vision, and then explore the course.
GNBC to hold 'Nutcracker' auditions

Peltier's no hitter guides Falcons to strong regular season finish

After heavy rains suspended the contest in the first inning last Wednesday, the two teams continued the battle on Saturday, with N-W coming out as the victors, 9-0.  Despite a stellar offensive showing from the Falcons, it was all about Tommy Peltier on the mound. The senior hurled a no hitter while striking out 13 Lions.
