Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced that, beginning April 2, event, arts and entertainment venues can reopen at 33% capacity, up to 100 people indoors and up to 200 people outdoors. If all attendees present proof of negative test prior to entry, capacity can increase up to 150 people indoors and up to 500 people outdoors.

Niagara County Public Health Director Daniel J. Stapleton on Wednesday announced Niagara County is expecting to receive 6,500 first doses of COVID-19 vaccination next week - by far the most the county has ever received for a single week. The county is expecting 5,000 Johnson & Johnson vaccines and 1,500 Moderna that must be dispensed in that week. These doses would nearly double the total amount of vaccine doses Niagara County has received to date.

The Niagara County Department of Health announced that, in alignment with the updated U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance, quarantine will no longer be required for fully vaccinated people following a close contact exposure. More specifically, asymptomatic, fully vaccinated individuals are no longer required to quarantine within 90 days after the second shot.

St. Patrick's Day parades are a favorite activity this time of year, but many have been canceled due to the pandemic. From 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13, Old Fort Niagara will host an "inverse" St. Patrick's Day parade. An "inverse parade" allows those on parade and those watching to switch places, maintain social distance and stay safe.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced eligible New Yorkers in Buffalo, Rochester, Albany and Yonkers areas can begin making appointments to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at the state-FEMA community-based vaccination sites scheduled to open Wednesday, March 3, in the four cities. The four vaccination sites will operate between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily and each site has the capacity to administer 1,000 doses per day.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Tuesday announced a new cooperative agreement with the state comptroller's office; Niagara County; Orleans County; the cities of Lockport, Niagara Falls and North Tonawanda; and the Niagara Orleans Regional Land Improvement Corp. Catholic Health has contracted to purchase 104 acres of land in Lockport, which will be the site of the new Lockport Memorial Campus of Mount St. Mary's Hospital. The multiple parcels, located off South Transit Road between Shimer and Ruhlmann roads, are currently under environmental and zoning review. Access to the hospital campus will be off Shimer Road near Transit.
