Shemika Charles didn't fare quite as well in her second go-around on "America's Got Talent." After receiving four strong "yes" votes following her audition, Charles received lukewarm looks and comments from judges Simon Cowell, Heidi Klum, Mel B., Howie Mandel and guest Laverne Cox. She failed to advance past Tuesday's "Judge Cuts" episode.

New York State Sen. Rob Ortt on Tuesday announced he secured a total of $1 million for infrastructure projects at three local hospitals. He said the funding will serve as a catalyst for economic growth and job creation. It secured by Ortt as part of the 2017-18 state budget, and supports projects at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, DeGraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda and Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.

Internationally renowned percussionist Cyro Baptista collaborated with Buffalo-based sculptor Shasti O'Leary Soudant and students from the University at Buffalo to create a colorful, interactive work called "Beat Blossom." Both were on hand to officially debut the sound-generating instrument on Sunday at Artpark in Lewiston. A dedication ceremony and concert took place inside the Percussion Garden.

More than 35,000 people are expected to attend the Niagara County Fair over its five-day run Aug. 2-6. The fair, held at 4487 Lake Ave. (Route 78), Lockport, will include local events, live music, shows, contests, food, rides and other attractions - making it the largest youth fair in New York.

As advertised, Blondie and Garbage brought buckets of angst and political disdain to Lewiston on Tuesday as part of the "Rage and Rapture" Tour stop at Artpark in Lewiston. They also brought truckloads of talent, stellar production and a batch of hit songs primarily from the 1980s and '90s.

Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz was joined Tuesday by representatives from the Erie County Industrial Development Agency, the Empire State Development Corp., the City of Lackawanna, and Tecumseh Redevelopment Inc. along with numerous other officials and agencies, to announce Erie County's acquisition of 148 acres of industrial land at the former Bethlehem Steel site in Lackawanna.

Old Fort Niagara will share American Revolution history with the public on Aug. 5-6, when it presents "Soldiers of the Revolution" from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. This re-enactment complements the daily summer programming currently happening at the fort, which features the British occupation of the fort from 1775-83.

The Grand Island Lions Club on July 19 held its 59th annual Special Kids Picnic at the Buffalo Launch Club, an event that brought in over 1,100 kids with special needs and their chaperones. Mayor Paul A. Dyster on Thursday announced the selection of TM Montante Development as preferred developer for prime downtown development parcels located along 7th and Niagara streets in the City of Niagara Falls. The multiphase, approximately $5 million project will transform the structures located 610, 614 and 624 Niagara St. and the adjacent vacant parcels of 414-428 7th St., into a mixed-use facility in the heart of the downtown corridor.

The Kingdom Bound Festival, one of the nation's largest and longest-running Christian music festivals, is set to return to Darien Lake Theme and Water Park this summer.
