Congressman Brian Higgins, D-NY-26, announced passage of H.R. 1049, the National Heritage Area Act of 2020. The bill, cosponsored by Higgins, creates the National Heritage Area System to conserve, enhance and interpret natural, historic, scenic and cultural resources that tell nationally significant stories.

If it isn't properly secured on a vehicle, the tree can become a dangerous projectile, endangering others on the road. Research from AAA finds road debris caused more than 200,000 crashes during a four-year period, resulting in approximately 39,000 injuries and 500 deaths.

The Lewiston Community Lions and VFW Downriver Post 7487 are collecting toiletry items for our local female and male homeless veterans and those in the VA hospital and shelters. Travel and full-sized requested items include toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, lip balm, hand sanitizer, wipes, facial tissue packets, shampoo and lotion. A special request to remember our female veterans, as well, with donations of feminine products (tampons and sanitary pads), and size 1 and 2 diapers.

New York Attorney General Letitia James on Mondday filed a lawsuit against the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo and former senior leaders Bishop Emeritus Richard J. Malone and former Auxiliary Bishop Edward M. Grosz, for "failing to follow mandated policies and procedures that would help to prevent the rampant sexual abuse of minors by priests within the Catholic Church."

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown recently announced a new initiative to drive consumers to Black-owned businesses in the Queen City this holiday season. From Dec. 4-11, the City of Buffalo and AT&T present "Buy Black Buffalo Week," a citywide shopping movement to support Black-owned businesses, especially ones that have suffered economic challenges due to the COVID-19 global health pandemic.

Well, one option is found at two unique businesses located in a quiet neighborhood along the Robinson Street strip in North Tonawanda. One is known as the Old Chapel Antique and Artisan Market, and found in a neat, old-time former church complex at 172 Robinson St. The other being its cousin - The Old Greenhouse Antiques and Décor - housed in long-time flower shop at 700 E. Results show 72% of Americans are unlikely to travel for Thanksgiving and 69% are unlikely to travel for Christmas, compounding the challenges for the hotel industry during this public health crisis.
