Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center's 2022 Niagara Cup Classic golf tournament has been set for Monday, Aug. 15, at both the Niagara Falls Country Club and Seneca Hickory Stick Golf Course. Memorial welcomes back Michael Cardamone, D.C., left, of Cardamone Chiropractic and David DeMizio of Copier Fax Business Technologies as co-chairs of this year's tournament.

On Monday, the Wheatfield Town board announced that, although the municipality elected not to opt out of New York State Cannabis Law Section 131 - which would have flatly prevented marijuana retail sales and on-site consumption establishments from operating - due to a lack of specifics from the state. It will go forward with its own regulations regarding where and how such establishments could operate.

It stated, "The trend to move toward remote learning options accelerated during the COVID-19 pandemic, and remains a strong solution for students who are unable to adhere to a traditional in-person class schedule."

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Buffalo's Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood and the City of North Tonawanda will receive $10 million each in funding as the Western New York region winners of the Downtown Revitalization Initiative. As part of DRI round 5, each of the state's 10 regional economic development regions are being awarded $20 million, to make for a total state commitment of $200 million in funding and investments to help communities boost their post COVID-19 economies by transforming downtowns into vibrant neighborhoods.

Empire State Wrestling comes back to its old stomping grounds in Niagara County - and brings back its traditional Thanksgiving Weekend super event with "Wrestlebash" on Saturday, Nov. 27 at the Frontier Fire Hall, 2176 Liberty Drive, Niagara Falls. This is the first Empire State Wrestling event in Niagara County in two years, and the first ESW event at the Frontier Fire Hall in three years.

Everyone loves the lights of the holidays, and this year's "Buffalo/Niagara Holiday Light Show" at the Niagara County Fairgrounds is set to deliver fun for the entire family. Construction of dozens of towering displays with hundreds of colored lights is well underway. The show opens Nov. 19 with what organizers called "a safe, secure, drive-thru experience synchronized to holiday music through your car radio."

Niagara Pride is asking Western New Yorkers and local businesses to help with its 2021 holiday shopping online auction by donating items or services to be part of the event. The auction will start on Black Friday, Nov. 26, and run through Saturday, Dec. 4. All items need to be donated by Nov. 20.

On Nov. 13-14, the Niagara Wine Trail will host its annual "Share the Bounty" event. Each participating winery has selected a different charity. They will collection donation of items or donate the tasting fees to that charity. There is no ticket for this event, but people are encouraged to visit as many wineries as they wish.

The former Niagara Catholic High School building, at 520 66th St., has sort of resembled Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory since it closed in the summer of 2018. Tremendous work has taken place inside - out of view from the general public - with great expectations in place for what might be when The Chapel reopens the site in the near future.

The Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas held its Fall Expo with member Gratwick Hose Co. on Saturday. This year's event featured vendors that cover everything from home improvement, health and wellness, beauty and fashion, to education, to a variety of personal, home, finance and novelty gifts. Admission was free to the public.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced the beginning of construction for a new, $46 million state-of-the-art visitor center in Niagara Falls State Park. The new facility, her team said, "will be a gateway to adventure along the Niagara River Corridor, greatly improving the visitor experience, complementing nature, and increasing the length of visits within the park in all four seasons. The newly built center will welcome new and returning sightseers, enhancing awareness of regional recreational and cultural offerings."

Two weekends ago, a handful of volunteers joined the crews from Painters Plus to help out this year's winner of Project H.O.P.E. (Helping Others Paint Exteriors), an annual citywide contest that offers a free exterior home paint job to homeowners in need. Painter's Plus owner Jesse Gooch said this year's Project H.O.P.E., now in its 11th year, was perhaps its most unique yet.
