Bridge Commission celebrates anniversaries

The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission is planning a series of commemorative activities in honor of its 75th anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge.

"To properly acknowledge and pay tribute to 75 years of effective, binational service to the Western New York and Southern Ontario regions, the commission has a series of exciting events and activities planned for the second-half of 2013," said NFBC Chairperson Thomas G. Pryce.

Residents mop up after windy, wet and wild storm

Some Wheatfield and Town of Niagara residents are still mopping up after last Friday evening's major thunderstorms that took down tree branches, and flooded basements and roads in scattered areas of the towns. Making matters worse, power outages lasting as long as 18 hours shut down basement sump pumps.

This year's Goochfest returns home for a dear friend

Jesse Gooch first hosted Goochfest in 1995 as a neighborhood attraction with live music and a comfortable party atmosphere among friends and neighbors.

Since 2006, the party's attendance has expanded into an annual charity event. Each year, Gooch has selected a charity to which he donates ticket sales and other proceeds.

Eventually, Goochfest's attendance and popularity grew to such an extent that Gooch's Wheatfield back yard simply couldn't hold all in attendance, and so the decision was made to relocate the party to the Lions Club.
