Ransomville Speedway: Danny Johnson takes 'Battle at the Border'

The Ransomville Speedway management welcomed in the month of July in successful fashion, as a packed house enjoyed plenty of hot racing action with 90 entries in the pit area last Friday night. At stake? Five large Gs as the second annual "Battle at the Border" took center stage. The second highest car count of the season provided plenty of racing action throughout the four divisions of Modifieds, Sportsman, Streetstocks and 4 Bangers.

NF sports old timers have new name

The Niagara Falls Old Timers Sports Hall of Fame has changed its name to The Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame. The organization, formed in 1968, has inducted 250 members and is working on creating a new image. Coinciding with its new name is a new logo.

St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church and School of Sanborn celebrated "St. Peter's Night at the Ballpark" in conjunction with the Niagara Power baseball organization on June 11. The Niagara Power took on the Alleghany County Nitros at Sal Maglie Stadium in Niagara Falls in front of a crowd of 370 people.

Mount St. Mary's sports medicine offers sports training for high school athletes

The Sports Medicine Department of Mount St. Mary's Hospital will offer a series of basic conditioning programs for high school age students starting July 6. Led by certified athletic trainers Jason Hopkins, ATC, and Brian Healy, ATC, the program will focus on endurance, speed, agility and injury prevention to assist athletes in grades 9-12 prepare for the fall 2011 season. The programs will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The U.S. Coast Guard Accident Statistics has identified New York state with one of the highest number of accidents and fatalities in 2009. Although National Safe Boating Week, held on Memorial Day weekend, is the traditional start of the recreational boating season, spring-breakers and eager boaters often take to the water early. The U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Division, 3-9 Eastern Region, which serves the Western New York area, encourages all boaters to always wear a life jacket each and every time they are on the water.
