Discover Clean & Safe Boating sailboat at 2012 Buffalo Boat Show

The Discover Clean & Safe Boating educational vessel for 2012 is a sailboat. The 17-foot Sun Cat - equipped with all the gear required and recommended for legal, safe and environmentally friendly boating in New York waters - will be at the Buffalo Boat Show Feb. 22-26. The event, organized by the Marine Trades Association of Western New York, is held at the Buffalo Bills Healthy Zone Fieldhouse in Orchard Park.

Presented by Investor's Services, this year's event went off some six weeks after the first scheduled date of Jan. 1 thanks to a lack of winter weather. That was not the case on Saturday, as winter arrived with a vengeance - and 3 inches of fresh snow blanketed the grounds prior to the first green flag.

YMCA receives Oishei Foundation grant

YMCA Buffalo Niagara has announced it will receive $300,000 from The John R. Oishei Foundation. This funding will help fund capital improvements at three of YMCA Buffalo Niagara's urban branches, which include the Niagara Falls Family YMCA, as well as Erie County's Delaware and Ellicott-Masten YMCAs.

The Niagara University women's hockey team is holding its annual "Pink the Rink" game on Friday, Feb. 3, when they host Mercyhurst University at 7 p.m.

All four of the women's hockey teams in the College Hockey America conference are taking part in the sixth annual "Skate for the Cure" fundraiser. The program was started to help raise awareness and funds toward the fight against breast cancer. In an effort to "pink" Dwyer Arena, the hockey team will wear custom-made pink jerseys and encourage everyone in attendance to join them by also wearing pink.

They say the third times the charm - Ransomville Speedway management certainly hopes so, as the Hangover 150 "Take Two" has now become the Hangover 150 "Take Three." The soaking rains Thursday night into Friday morning left the parking lot completely saturated, forcing co-promoters Jamie and Joel Friesen to postpone Saturday's event for the second time this year.
