NWHS alumni reunion

The Niagara Wheatfield High School Alumni Reunion committee announced it is planning a picnic-style reunion to be held from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Gratwick Hose pavilion in North Tonawanda. All alumni from the graduating classes 1960 through 1971 are invited to attend.

This honor recognizes faculty members who exemplify the traits of the late Dr. Jamieson, who was best described as "A veteran academician with in-depth historical perspective and acute foresight, a can-do attitude, ever-present resilience, and willingness to serve as a mentor to many."

Niagara County Central Rotary Club offering student scholarships

The Niagara County Central Rotary Club will award three $500 scholarships to students in the Niagara Wheatfield, Starpoint and Wilson school districts. Eligible students must be entering college in the fall of 2022. Applications are due March 7. Interviews will be scheduled via zoom the evening of March 30.

Congressman Brian Higgins, on behalf of the Seneca Nation of Indians, is urging the U.S. Department of the Interior to include the former Thomas Indian School, located on the Cattaraugus Territory, in the department's Federal Indian Boarding School Initiative. The school was attended by hundreds of Seneca and other indigenous children, severely impacting native culture and language.

The Natalie Barnhard Center for Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation and Recovery opened in Buffalo this fall, welcoming clients who would otherwise have to travel hundreds of miles to find a similar place to work out and, perhaps just as important, bond with other spinal cord injured clients.

The New York State Department of Health issued significant changes to its isolation and quarantine guidance late in the evening on Tuesday, Jan. 4. As the Erie County Department of Health's epidemiology office began to review this documentation, it was quickly determined that ECDOH needed additional time to make significant changes to the Erie County "test to stay" protocols to prepare for the all-school meeting scheduled on Wednesday afternoon.
