Buffalo Bills & Buffalo Sabres to provide Thanksgiving meals for 1,000 families

The Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres foundations will provide 1,000 Thanksgiving meals for families throughout Western New York with a total donation of more than $50,000 this holiday season. The donation is a part of the direct community aid initiative Terry and Kim Pegula launched in March that has committed $1.2 million to help members of the community who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

New York Farm Bureau's 2020 market basket survey shows the price of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner saw a modest uptick from last year's meal. The average total price, which includes a 16-pound turkey and other common items found on a holiday dinner table, is $49.23 - or a $2.86 increase over last year.

Earlier this week, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, Delaware Gov. John Carney, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo and Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker announced they will encourage residential colleges and universities in their respective states to provide testing for all students traveling home for Thanksgiving break to the maximum extent possible before they leave campus.

The New York State Department of State announced a new online application for the address confidentiality program (ACP) in which victims of domestic violence, stalking, sexual offenses and human trafficking can protect themselves from their perpetrators by getting a new undisclosed address. It said this online application will facilitate a swift and secure enrollment into the program for individuals who previously could only apply for the program via mail or fax.
