Founding members of the Wheatfield Garden Club were honored Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the Club's annual Christmas party held at Pane's Restaurant on Payne Avenue. Included were Betty Painter, Arlene Mante, Nancy Mihalko and Doris Leaderstorf. Absent were Shirley Allen and Clarice Poerschke.

For family fun with the kids this winter, there's a place at 2660 Saunders Settlement Road called the Sanborn Farm Museum. It's becoming the site of "Christmas at the Farm" for two days in the middle of the holiday season: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 15.

The Carnegie Art Center hosted a big night this past Thursday for its annual "Art off the Wall" event. The largest wall was covered with small 5-by-7-inch pieces of art, while the space also contained a room dedicated to 12-by-12-inch canvases and even tinted glass that were bid on silently by artists' fans.

The Greater Niagara Ballet Co. will present "The Nutcracker" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at the Niagara Falls High School Performing Arts Center, 4455 Porter Road. The GNBC's production showcases both local and Canadian dancers in a ballet set to the direction of artistic director Beverley Feder and Julie Traver. In addition, local character actors and brave parents will participate in the Act I party scene.

Winter storms, bad weather and sloppy road conditions are a factor in nearly half a million crashes and more than 2,000 road deaths every winter, according to research by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety. AAA Western and Central New York wants to prepare drivers with winter driving tips to keep everyone safe on the road. The top three winter driving tips include slowing down, increasing the space between yourself and other vehicles, and braking, then turning.

Lewiston Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post 7487 has released a rare commemorative "first day cover" that will become a prized collector's item. The envelope displays the VFW symbol, the front and back of the VFW's commemorative coin, and the "Circle of Honor" postage stamp that has a Lewiston, NY, postmark dated Nov. 11, 2019 - the day the new monument was dedicated at Academy Park during a dramatic nighttime ceremony.

That included the "Noel of Niagara" light display that continues throughout the season at the Town of Niagara's Veterans Park on Lockport Road; holiday shopping offerings such as Small Business Saturday in Lewiston and Sanborn, "Jingle Falls USA" in Niagara Falls; last weekend's Ransomville Festival of Lights; and Friday evening's Holiday Light Up Parade in Newfane.
