Niagara University to welcome Disney Institute back to Niagara Falls

Niagara University will host the Disney Institute and bring elements of the professional development course, Disney's Approach to Business Excellence, to Niagara Falls on Thursday, March 12. The event will be held at The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls.

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced certain private nonprofit organizations (PNPs) located in 18 counties throughout upstate New York that do not provide critical services of a governmental nature may be eligible to apply for low-interest rate disaster loans. These loans are available following a presidential disaster declaration for public assistance resulting from damages caused by severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, 2019.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Great Lakes Research Consortium announced $125,000 in grants to support Great Lakes projects. The 2020 Great Lakes Research Consortium small grants program will provide up to $25,000 for projects that contribute to the protection and restoration of the health of New York's Great Lakes and to ecosystem-based management.
Western New York REDC awarded $67.3 million for 109 projects

As part of round IX of Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo's Regional Council initiative, the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council (WNYREDC) was awarded $67.3 million for 109 projects that build on the region's assets and invest in the future. The announcement, which supports projects in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara counties, was made Thursday in Albany. The Western New York region has now been awarded $620.5 million cumulatively through nine rounds of the Regional Council initiative, in state support for 890 projects across the region.

The New York Power Authority board of trustees has approved economic development awards in support of 468 jobs and $191 million in capital investment commitments statewide. The board approved more than 6 megawatts (MW) of ReCharge NY power and low-cost hydropower to 12 enterprises throughout the state, and an additional low-cost power allocation and several funding awards to enterprises in Western New York and the North Country.

People Inc. it has been awarded $100,000 from the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation National Paralysis Resource Center Expanded Effect Quality of Life Grants cycle. The award was one of seven grants totaling $663,946 given to nonprofit organizations that empower individuals living with paralysis.

At a recent Town Board meeting in Wheatfield, Sara Taylor, a BTOP e-mobile trainer, spoke to Supervisor Don MacSwan and councilmen regarding bringing the program to the residents, despite the town's lack of a library.

Winter tips for Wheatfield residents

A reminder to Wheatfield residents, the brush chipper went off the road in October. We did bring it out briefly after a windstorm and the town was covered three times to pick up storm related debris. The brush chipper will not be back out until spring unless we have unseasonably snow melt. The leaf pickup will not be back out. Bag leaves for regular trash pick-up.
