Barring a monumental miracle by June 1, the Toronto Blue Jays will again call downtown Buffalo's Sahlen Field home. The Canadian government has yet to grant them approval to return to the Rogers Centre. With COVID-19 cases on the rise in Canada, and Ontario recently entering another lockdown, it is unlikely the Jays will return to the field they last called home in 2019 anytime soon.

Jennifer Leah Buckley, a resident of Grand Island for 14 years, passed away on Jan. 14, 2021, after a long battle with an illness. Born on Aug. 6, 1964, she passed too soon at the age of 56. She is survived by her mother, Janice Piepke of Umatilla, Florida; her partner, Dean Morakis of Grand Island; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
AAA hosts 'Great Battery Roundup'

Erie County DA to take action on pending marijuana possession cases

Erie County District Attorney John Flynn announced his office will reexamine all pending cases that involve criminal possession of marijuana. This action follows the legalization of recreational cannabis in New York state, which allows adults to possess up to 3 ounces of marijuana for personal use.

On March 23, an Erie County woman had a rude awakening when a turkey broke into her home. The woman heard a large bang and crash from her upstairs bedroom and discovered a turkey had busted through a glass window. The woman confined the bird to an upstairs bathroom by closing the door until New York State Department of Environmental Conservation police officer Machnica arrived to assist. The turkey flew around the bathroom, crashing into mirrors and walls, leaving broken glass everywhere.

This comes from the genetic sequencing of nearly 1,000 specimens by the interdisciplinary team at the University at Buffalo's New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics and Life Sciences.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three maps in the contest supported by the Grand Island Historical Society, Grand Island Schools Business Alliance (GISBA) and the Orange Poppy Art Studio.
