The Erie County Agricultural Society is now accepting applications for scholarships for 2022. There will be $25,000 awarded to deserving high school seniors and college students up to their junior year. Since its inception in the 1950s, the goal of the scholarship program has been to connect the region's students with agriculture, business and volunteerism.

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced the award of more than $3.7 million to expand evidence-based addiction prevention services throughout New York. Funding was awarded to providers in each of the state's 10 economic development regions, and will support prevention providers who had their services negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) is administering this funding.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Thursday announced that, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 1, target shooting will be prohibited at Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area (WMA), located in DEC's regions 8 and 9. The closure will bring the WMA into compliance with recently adopted regulations for WMAs statewide that prohibit target shooting.

Congressman Brian Higgins announced $10 million in new federal funding provided through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Law will be invested in Times Beach Nature Preserve on Buffalo's Outer Harbor. The funding was included in a list of waterway and port infrastructure projects released by the White House that will be led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
