Ryan secures $90,000 in state grants for Erie County libraries

On Monday, New York State Sen. Sean Ryan joined representatives from the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library System to announce he secured a total of $90,000 in state grants for the library system and its branches.
$1.64 million+ in FEMA funding for ECMC

Congressman Brian Higgins announced federal funding totaling $1,640,522 for Erie County Medical Center. Funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the award reimburses the medical center for personal protective equipment and supplies needed to treat and prevent the spread of coronavirus, as well as contract services used to support hospital functions during the pandemic.

Hochul announces rollout of electric and gas utility bill credits for low-income families

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the vast majority of $567 million dedicated to help low-income electric and gas utility customers pay off past utility bills will be reflected on customers' August bills. The financial assistance program includes an estimated $557 million statewide COVID-19 bill credit program for low-income customers adopted by the New York State Public Service Commission.
Erie County Department of Health updates COVID-19 testing & vaccine clinic schedule

Erie County delivers harm reduction supplies & materials to local restaurants, bars

The Erie County Department of Health and Erie County Opiate Epidemic Task Force have expanded a campaign to distribute harm reduction materials and supplies. ECDOH has contacted restaurants and bars, starting in the City of Buffalo, to offer Narcan kits and branded materials with harm reduction messages at no cost. Outreach to the rest of Erie County will continue this summer.
Niagara University's Merani Scholarship awarded to Mount St. Mary Academy senior Sheila Strott

Sheila Strott, an incoming freshman in Niagara University's College of Hospitality, Sport and Tourism Management, is the 2022 recipient of the Merani scholarship, a collaboration between Niagara and the Merani Hotel Group to provide opportunities for high-level experiential learning in the hospitality industry. Strott, a Grand Island resident who graduated from Mount St. Mary Academy in June, will receive a four-year, $30,000 scholarship, and three paid rotating internships at Merani properties.

State Parks holds lifeguard qualifier

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation announced there will be lifeguard qualifier for position in the Niagara Region of State Parks. Testing - required for anyone wishing to work as a lifeguard at a state park - will take place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at Hamburg High School, 4111 Legion Drive.

Congressman Brian Higgins, New York State Sen. Tim Kennedy, New York Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes, and City of Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown were joined by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA) and Buffalo Place to mark the near-completion of the latest phase of the "Cars Sharing Main Street" project in downtown Buffalo. The leaders also announced $54.5 million in new funding to continue the work along additional sections of Main Street.
Flynn to serve as president of National District Attorneys Association

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn has been elected by his peers to serve as the president of the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA). Flynn, who was unanimously voted as president-elect by NDAA members last summer, was officially named president Monday afternoon at the "Pass the Gavel" ceremony at the organization's Summer Summit in Denver.
