Former Niagara Catholic site getting makeover by The Chapel

The former Niagara Catholic High School building, at 520 66th St., has sort of resembled Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory since it closed in the summer of 2018. Tremendous work has taken place inside - out of view from the general public - with great expectations in place for what might be when The Chapel reopens the site in the near future.

Higgins & Restaino: $40,000-plus in federal funding for Niagara Falls Police Department

Congressman Brian Higgins and City of Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino announced a federal grant totaling $40,648 for the Niagara Falls Police Department. Funded by the U.S. Department of Justice and awarded through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program, the grant supports public safety efforts in the Cataract City.

DHS releases details for fully vaccinated, non-citizen travelers to enter us at land & ferry border crossings

Center for Elder Law & Justice awarded federal funding

The Center for Elder Law & Justice has been awarded funding through the Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women to provide enhanced training and services to end abuse in later life in Niagara County. The agency will partner with the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, the district attorney of Niagara County, and Pinnacle Community Services to provide training programs to law enforcement, prosecutors, units of local government, victim service providers, and other organizations in recognizing and addressing instances of elder abuse.

This year's event featured vendors that cover everything from home improvement, health and wellness, beauty and fashion, to education, to a variety of personal, home, finance and novelty gifts. Niagara County Clerk Joseph Jastrzemski hosted a brief ceremony on Tuesday to open a display of the Niagara County Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and the "Our Photo Album" exhibit featuring photos taken by Vietnam veterans during their tours of duty. The display will be open at least through Veteran's Day (Thursday, Nov. 11) at the Niagara County Courthouse in Lockport.

Hochul announces groundbreaking for $46 million welcome center at Niagara Falls State Park

Gov. Kathy Hochul on Friday announced the beginning of construction for a new, $46 million state-of-the-art visitor center in Niagara Falls State Park. The new facility, her team said, "will be a gateway to adventure along the Niagara River Corridor, greatly improving the visitor experience, complementing nature, and increasing the length of visits within the park in all four seasons. The newly built center will welcome new and returning sightseers, enhancing awareness of regional recreational and cultural offerings."
