A small change on paper made a big difference Monday, as the Village of Lewiston Historic Preservation Commission approved a modified request by Hastings Lewiston Inc. to subdivide the property at 460 Center St. Commissioners voted 4-0 to grant a certificate of appropriateness, and to move the concept along to the Planning Board.

On Saturday, Nov. 5, Old Fort Niagara will present "French Heritage Day" through a series of interactive and educational activities for the public. The programs will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will convey the influence and impact of the French on Niagara's early history, from 1726-59.

As such, the public hearing originally eyed for this Monday's monthly meeting is postponed.

The Lewiston Post Office reopened Thursday, less than 24 hours after hazardous materials crews combed the building for what was then an unknown smell. The irritant caused seven employees to temporarily have a sore throat and watery eyes.
