The Sanborn Area Historical Society will host a program titled, "6 Times the World Was Saved From Nuclear Armageddon (That You Never Knew About)," at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at the Sanborn firehall, 5811 Buffalo St. (Route 429), Sanborn.

The program is open to the public. It will be presented by Lee Simonson, a local author and former president of the Historical Association of Lewiston.

"There have been dozens of nuclear mishaps and miscommunications over the past 70 years that could have been serious," Simonson said. "However, there have been several little-known incidents that have brought America, and the world, to the brink of annihilation that would have killed hundreds of millions of people in a matter of hours. Governments suppressed and covered up information about these close-calls for decades, with involved parties sworn to secrecy."

Find out more about the remarkable heroes who were able to stop an otherwise inevitable sequence of destruction.

Free refreshments will be served.
