Internationally renowned percussionist Cyro Baptista collaborated with Buffalo-based sculptor Shasti O'Leary Soudant and students from the University at Buffalo to create a colorful, interactive work called "Beat Blossom." Both were on hand to officially debut the sound-generating instrument on Sunday at Artpark in Lewiston. A dedication ceremony and concert took place inside the Percussion Garden.

More than 35,000 people are expected to attend the Niagara County Fair over its five-day run Aug. 2-6. The fair, held at 4487 Lake Ave. (Route 78), Lockport, will include local events, live music, shows, contests, food, rides and other attractions - making it the largest youth fair in New York.

The Kiwanis Club of Lewiston will hold a meat raffle Saturday, Aug. 5, to support Project Eliminate - the Kiwanis International global initiative to eradicate maternal and neonatal tetanus. This meat raffle will take place at the Lewiston No. 2 firehall, 1705 Saunders Settlement Road. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with drawings beginning at 7 p.m.

New York State Sen. Rob Ortt ceremonially delivered a total of $40,000 in state funding to several museum organizations throughout Niagara County. Ortt secured the funding as part of the 2017-18 state budget, in addition to funding secured over the past two years for museums in his district.

As advertised, Blondie and Garbage brought buckets of angst and political disdain to Lewiston on Tuesday as part of the "Rage and Rapture" Tour stop at Artpark in Lewiston. They also brought truckloads of talent, stellar production and a batch of hit songs primarily from the 1980s and '90s.

Old Fort Niagara will share American Revolution history with the public on Aug. 5-6, when it presents "Soldiers of the Revolution" from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. This re-enactment complements the daily summer programming currently happening at the fort, which features the British occupation of the fort from 1775-83.
