Peach Queen supports Make-A-Wish

Sat, Jul 29th 2017 07:00 am
On Sunday, Aug. 6, 2016-17 Peach Queen Angelica Beiter will hold a basket auction and vendor fair to raise money for the Make-A-Wish program. This event will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Vincent De Paul Parish Center located at 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls.
Beiter is 19 years old and was granted a wish herself this past December to go to Disney on Christmas day with her family.
"The bond that it created with my family gave us time to not think of my illness," Beiter said.
To make a wish come true, it takes a donation of $8,000. So far, Beiter has been successful in raising $5,000 through events such as Swish for Make-A-Wish, which was a basketball event that netted $4,500; and a scrapbook event in June that raised $500. She is having a local church collect money for the program, too. Beiter said she hopes to raise enough for a child in Western New York to have the same opportunity she had.
Beiter is very active in the community and visits sites such as the Ronald McDonald house. She said she believes the next Peach Queen should hold the same values, "Be involved and do as much as you can to give back."
This year's Niagara County Peach Festival is the weekend of Sept. 8-10.
