Statewide effort to prevent speeding

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced law enforcement agencies throughout New York state will be increasing patrols to target speeding from Aug. 14-21. Speed Awareness Week is a high-visibility enforcement campaign supported by the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee to stop speeding and prevent avoidable crashes caused by unsafe speed.

"C'est pas là, C'est par là (It's Not That Way, It's This Way!)," a site-specific interactive temporary art installation from France, will be held at 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Aug. 25-26, on Artpark's Gene Davis "Niagara 1979" "Painted Parking Lot" located in the lower park (South 4th St. entrance). Admission is free.

K9 Reggie's vest is sponsored by Christine Rath of Youngstown, and will be embroidered with the sentiment "Born to Love - Trained to Serve - Loyal Always." Delivery is expected within eight to 10 weeks.

Artpark & Company presents the return of Plasticiens Volants from Toulouse, France, for the North American premiere of "Leonardo." The larger-than-life show will celebrate one of the greatest inventors of all time: Leonardo da Vinci. Guests will witness oversized, helium-filled, hand-painted inflatables depicting Leonardo's ideas, inventions and visions floating weightlessly above the audience and moving through the skies as the sun sets across the Niagara escarpment.

Niagara County Legislature allocates funds for Purple Heart Monument

The Niagara County Legislature voted Tuesday to allocate up to $100,000 for the construction of a new Purple Heart monument on the grounds of the Niagara County Courthouse in Lockport. The vote endorsed the recommendations of an ad hoc committee that was formed earlier this year to come up with a design and a location to honor Niagara County's Purple Heart recipients.
