Dr. Phyllis J. Franzek, 65, of Los Angeles, passed away Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016, after a short illness. Born in Lewiston, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Eugenia (Deskiewicz) Franzek.

Thursday's Village of Youngstown Board meeting began with a pleasant surprise. The Vietnam Veterans of America Niagara County Chapter 268 presented donations to the village in honor of Francis Daniel Zuhlke, a veteran and active community member who passed away in October.

The Niagara History Center is taking applications to fill two student positions funded by the Grigg Lewis Foundation Workership Program at the museum this summer.
