On Tuesday, the Wendelville Fire Department hosted the kick-off event for the annual RecruitNY campaign in Western New York. Members from the Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY), along with fire service officials from Niagara County and county legislators highlighted the weekend in which volunteer fire departments across New York state open their doors to residents with the goal to increase membership.

Recovered body in Porter

On Wednesday afternoon, Niagara County Dispatch received a call from a boater in the Lower Niagara River stating there was a body floating in the water. U.S. Coast Guard retrieved the person from the water, where the deceased was then brought to the Coast Guard Station in Fort Niagara State Park.
