In celebration of the "40 Over 40" campaign - a movement she started in the Buffalo Region - Andrea Costrino presented an art exhibit for the project Thursday at the Carnegie Art Center in North Tonawanda. All women involved in the campaign were invited to the pop-up exhibit of portraits from each women's session - and to toast each other in support of one another.

Included was a public hearing to consider a ground-mounted utility-grade solar energy system at 2634 Ridge Road by applicants Kevan Thompson and Janelle Uderitz of DG New York CS III LLC. This represents the latest proposal the town has considered following its earlier lifting of a moratorium on commercial-grade utility solar installations.

Michael Kislack of St. Johnsburg was elected to the board of trustees of the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY) Firemen's Home. This is Kislack's first elected position with FASNY. He will serve as trustee for a five-year term.

The Kiwanis Club of Lewiston held a news conference Wednesday at Academy Park in Lewiston to announce what's new for the 63rd annual Niagara County Peach Festival. The event returns after having to be canceled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The 2021 edition will take place Sept. 9-12 at Academy Park on Center Street.

The long-running "King of the Hill" at the Ransomville Speedway will add another chapter to the history books of the event in 2021. The Sept. 17 racing program will feature the return of the Empire Super Sprints along with the opening of rules for the street stock "King of the Hill."

The esports industry is expected to pass the $1 billion mark by early 2022. Niagara County Community College will meet demand within the industry both on the creative side and on a competitive level for students. A newly renovated portion of NCCC's cafeteria has been reconstructed and redesigned as the new advanced computing lab, which will host computer programming courses as well as serve as a home base for NCCC's esports teams.

Old Fort Niagara's "War of 1812 Encampment" is set for Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-5. This year's event will focus on U.S. troops who garrisoned the fort from June of 1812 through December of 1813, when the British captured the fort.

A new group, the Lewiston-Porter Plant and Garden Club, has been improving the environment of Lewiston this summer. Members of this student group have been active weeding gardens, on their own time, that needed attention. The academic adviser for the group will be John Mango.

Trustees in the Village of Lewiston were recently presented a revised proposal from Artpark & Company for a wayfinding mural on South Fourth Street. This one, titled "Unity in Diversity," is expected to be smaller in nature than the concept presented last month and not approved by the board.

Congressman Brian Higgins on Thursday announced Catholic Health has been awarded $880,000 in American Rescue Plan Funding to address COVID-19 vaccine disparities in Niagara County, particularly in Niagara Falls, where lack of access to vaccine resources and widespread vaccine hesitancy are preventing the community from reaching optimal vaccination rates.

The Lewiston Jazz Festival Inc. board of directors will host a "Jazz in Lewiston" fundraiser event on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 27-28, at dining establishments in the Village of Lewiston. Of course, the traditional two-day street festival will not take place this year, but jazz music will still be prominent throughout the weekend. Live music will be courtesy of local jazz musicians who have performed at past Jazz Festivals.
