The Most Rev. Michael W. Fisher, bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo, recently visited Catholic Charities Glynn Family Services Center and its adjacent Children's Clinic, both on Tronolone Place in Niagara Falls. In addition to touring the offices and blessing the sites, Fisher met members of the James and Mary Glynn family and recognized their generous support.

During the annual Lewiston Christmas Walk, the proudly Binational Rotary Club of Lewiston & Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, offered locally made holiday-scented candles for sale, with net proceeds to benefit Ransomville's Care-N-Share. The food pantry serves an average of 320 individuals every month, providing food for families to prepare at home.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the release of a proposal to "clarify and simplify" sportfishing regulations based on public feedback and DEC fisheries manager reviews of rules associated with the management of the state's fisheries. The proposed rulemaking also includes a limited number of waterbody-specific regulation changes to support improved management of these waters.

For the month of December, children and their families can take a self-guided stroll along the path to read Gregg and Evan Spiridellis' charming story "Are You Grumpy Santa?" Niagara County Legislator Rich Andres, chairman of the Economic Development Committee, on Monday announced applications are now available for Niagara County's COVID Relief for Small Business Grant program. Niagara County was awarded $1 million in state Community Development Block Grant CARES Act funding for the program, which will be administered by the Niagara County Industrial Development Agency.

Christmas Walk weekend wrapped Sunday night with the inaugural Lewiston Christmas Lights Parade. The one-hour event featured floats and decorated first-responder vehicles, as well as dancers, costumed characters, musical performances and local nonprofits. Families lined the roadway to watch, cheer, take pictures and collect candy.

The Village of Lewiston Planning Commission on Monday granted preliminary site plan approval for what was described as a national urgent care company to erect and operate a structure at 860 Center St. The parcel has been vacant since April 2012, when the building that now houses the Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce office was transported from the site and moved across the street to Academy Park.

Catholic Health broke ground Tuesday on the new Lockport Memorial Hospital, which will become an eastern campus of Mount St. Mary's Hospital. Located off South Transit Road, between Shimer and Ruhlmann roads, the new hospital will be built on a large portion of Hall's Apple Farm, an area landmark that will maintain its longstanding market.
