Memorial Medical Center expands gastrointestinal program

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center has expanded its gastrointestinal (GI) services for residents of Niagara County by purchasing equipment that will allow for wireless testing and monitoring to evaluate esophageal function.

Heart, Love & Soul was awarded $200,000 of grant funding from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation in support of its food and hospitality and social care programs. The funding will build upon the agency's mission of feeding those in need - body, mind and soul - by addressing food insecurity, inadequate housing, health, and other challenges associated with poverty.
Relocation of Niagara County Veterans' Service Agency complete

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski on Tuesday announced the relocation of the offices of the Niagara County Veterans' Service Agency is now complete. The new office is now open at the Niagara County Clerk's Office in the Niagara County Courthouse, 175 Hawley St., Lockport.
'Economic gardening' program comes to Niagara County

The Niagara Area Foundation announced awards totaling more than $58,000 to eight Niagara area nonprofit organizations for its 2021 grant cycle. The grants will support programs that have demonstrated they will have a positive impact on Niagara County in the areas of health, human services, arts, civic needs, community development, education and the environment, with an emphasis on positive youth development.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Thursday announced that, beginning Tuesday, Feb. 1, target shooting will be prohibited at Tonawanda Wildlife Management Area (WMA), located in DEC's regions 8 and 9. The closure will bring the WMA into compliance with recently adopted regulations for WMAs statewide that prohibit target shooting.

Sentencing in Mandy Steingasser murder case

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Friday that Joseph H. Belstadt, after being convicted of the 1993 murder of Mandy Steingasser, was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison, by the Hon. Michael Mohun.
