Trustees in the Village of Lewiston approved the fiscal year 2016-17 budget at a special meeting Monday. The property tax rate remains at $7.38 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. Also the same: the water rate ($3.54 per 100 cubic feet) and sewer rate ($4.64 per 100 cubic feet). The total budget demand is $3,338,596.
Board approval came after a half-dozen budget meetings with Deputy Treasurer Edward Walker.
"I'd like to go on record saying that you did a wonderful job with the public," in explaining the budget and making copies available, Deputy Mayor Bruce Sutherland said. "That was very good. ... It was logical; common-sense."
"I'd like to commend you myself. You've done a beautiful job, Ed," Mayor Terry Collesano added. "As well as all of our various department heads. They did a great job (holding costs) this year. And I also want to commend this board. You guys stepped up to the plate and you really did a great job for us."
The budget was approved on a 4-0 vote. (Trustee Nick Conde was excused.) It takes effect June 1.
No residents offered comment at a public hearing April 18, and none attended this week's gathering, which clocked in at 6 minutes.
