Chef Victor Parra has something special planned for the moms who eat at Jaguar at the Bistro this Mother's Day.
"The spirit of the evening is going to be giving out the best service that we can possibly do for those who give out their whole life for us," he said. "That is the most important part for us.
"I think that many, many people consider their mom like the holy person. That's how I want them to feel - especially on that particular day. They do so much for us when we're little. It's the least that we can do."
His Youngstown restaurant is offering a seven-course tasting menu on Mother's Day. The three-part meal will have an '80s-inspired French theme. Parra said he and his staff would finalize the seven dishes in the next two weeks. Guests can expect beef Wellington, caviar and French wine.
Parra said dishes would run the gamut from comfort to complex, all prepared and served in an elevated manner (think: Mom's home-cooking, but Mom is a classically trained chef).
"Whenever we think about food - and good food - more often than not, we say, 'My Mom's good food,' " Parra said.
The cost is $80 per person. Jaguar at the Bistro will have two seatings - one at 5 p.m., and a second at 8 p.m. - and reservations are recommended. Musician Dave Thurman will perform for patrons, and Parra's staff will be out in full force helping diners navigate their way through seven plates.
"We have a very well-trained staff," he said.
Parra's own mother, Olivia Polin, works alongside him at the Jaguar. On Mother's Day, he promised, "She certainly won't be cooking, that's for sure. Nor serving. She's going to be here as a guest, and a host, and hopefully she will enjoy dinner."
Jaguar at the Bistro is located at 110 Main St., Youngstown. Call 716-745-7141 for reservations.
