Roman Café took first place in Niagara Frontier Publications' recent Web poll. Readers at www.wnypapers.com were asked to pick their favorite spot for a fish fry. More than 20 restaurants made the list, but Roman Café was the clear choice, with more than 60 percent of the vote.
Two of Roman Café's staunchest supporters are husband and wife Margie and Roger Drake of Sanborn.
"The fish is always fresh haddock, and the beer batter is the best!" she said. "The meal is served with their own excellent homemade cole slaw, great french fries, and a serving of Italian bread. The atmosphere is friendly, the meal is inexpensive for the portions you get, and the servers are very attentive."
Roman Café is located at 797 Payne Ave., North Tonawanda. For more information, call 692-7048 or visit http://www.romancaferestaurant.com/.
