Niagara County icons are looking for a new flavor to serve at Niagara County Fair this year
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County press release
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County (CCE Niagara), in conjunction with Hoover Dairy, announced the second annual “Fair-ly New” ice cream flavor contest. The competition is now accepting entrants, with the winning flavor to be created by Hoover Dairy and served during the Niagara County Fair, Aug. 5-9 at the Niagara County Fairgrounds.
Hoover Dairy is a destination establishment in Niagara County. Known for its homemade ice creams and milks, it’s working closely with CCE Niagara to put a fresh flavor on old-fashioned fun.
“We are thrilled to bring back the ‘Fair-ly New’ ice cream contest for a second consecutive year,” said Amanda Henning, CCE Niagara interim executive director. “We are so grateful to our partners at Hoover Daily for their support and their expert ice cream craftsmanship in making this year’s winner a reality. We can’t wait to see what our entrants come up with.”
Last year’s flavor “S’More Fun,” developed by Newfane resident Cecelia Mecca, was a huge hit. It was made of chocolate ice cream, loaded with mini marshmallows and studded with chocolate-covered graham crackers.
This year’s contest runs from June 1-15. The ice cream committee will announce the top three flavors on June 22, before opening up voting to the public to select the winning flavor. The contest is open to all community members, regardless of age, including residents of other counties. The winning flavor will be announced June 30.
“We were incredibly pleased with the response to our first ever ‘Fair-ly New’ ice cream contest last year,” said Justine Hays, senior SNAP-Ed nutritionist and ice cream committee member. “Hopefully, America’s 250th celebration will inspire some new, exciting flavor creations!”
To enter the contest, visit the CCE Niagara website or Facebook page and fill out a “Fair-ly New” flavor form. The public will have an opportunity to vote on the winning flavor through the CCE Niagara website and social media channels. The winner will receive a weekly pass to the fair and coupons for an ice cream each day. The only place to try the winning flavor is the Niagara County Fair.
